Jam into Gummies

Yesterday, Mom started to make the jelly: Prickly Pear and Black Currant Champagne. She boiled, stirred, and did back breaking work to get the jam just right.

Here is the jam in the jars. The Prickly Pear jelly is the one on the left. Pretty, right?

Here is the prickly pear fruit being strained through the cheese cloth.

Today, though, we opened a jar to see if the jam tasted good. (It was, by the way.) Some of the jars had turned into something that gummy bears are made out of. Mom had cooked the jam too long? Instead of jam we made candy instead.

Thanks to suggestions from our Twitter friend, @ddrquilter, the gummy jam was cut into pieces and were covered with powered sugar to make candy instead!

Now, I don't know about you but I sure would like a thousand of them.
