Jam of the Prickly Pear

Mom found some prickly pears for her prickly pear jam experiment! She started making them yesterday, cutting off the outside so thorns don't get in the jam. She worked outside on the patio table so the kitchen wouldn't get full of thorns. But Mom did - get full of thorns.

 

Here are the prickly pear fruits.

Here is a prickly pear with the skin being cut off. Pretty color, right? Mom is hoping the jam will be this pretty.

 

At our house, we have tons of recipe books. One canning book had a funny recipe in the back cover, "How to Preserve a Husband."
