Fashion Talk

There's fashion....and there is art......and there is news happening on both accounts...…
...and then there is this.

An inspiring fashion article, preserved as art :)
Just a rare vintage treasure that makes me smile, so I wanted to share it with you. LUV words in quilting and other arts. And I kept this picture file giant so you should be able to read the article too.

This is the first of the month and our affiliate links are updated with new sales, please shop here first!
Remember, you are welcome to advertise your shop here too, in an evergreen Pearl's Post.

Paper Star

Wow, this is the earliest I have ever finished a Christmas project.
So this is my Thankful Thursday; that I am getting stuff done! Not everything....but stuff:)

Don't you just LUV a Homespun Christmas?

I used pieces from my giant stash bag of ginghams, plaids, and homespuns.
How do you sort your stash? I sort by theme, function, and size:
  • Christmas
  • Thanksgiving
  • Halloween
  • Summertime (Patriotics, Sunflowers and Beaches)
  • Kitchen Noveltys (beer, wine, coffee, LOL)
  • checks/plaids
  • Florals and Springtime
  • FQ and smaller blenders
  • 2.5" strips
  • stuff not for quilting
  • flannel
Right now, Christmas stash is taking up the most space. Lots of UFOs planned in there. But all my favorite "too nice to cut" fabrics are in the Thanksgiving pile.

LOL I used stabilizer here by mistake, instead of a fusi-web. So I went ahead and fringed the toe and heel.

I think Foundation Paper Piecing is trending. Is it just me, or are you too seeing lots of paper pieced stars lately?

Of course, I ALWAYS forget to add the hanging tab! No matter how many socks I make, they end-up with tacked on tabs, added afterwards, never in-seam as planned. Whatever:)

Girl Scout Map for Badges

I'm sharing these because it took me years to find one.

FYI: We just missed Girl Scout Leader Day. It was April 22nd. Somebody remind me in time next year, please! And Girl Scout Day was March 12th.
Hope you and your Girl Scout find this useful. Or atleast that you enjoy reminiscing about the days you sewed on all those badges :)

Teacher Appreciation Week

May starts Teacher Appreciation Week. You need to find a trendy and functional present that can be shipped fast! If his is you, please check our Etsy shop link to the right of this post.
Don't tell Kitty Pearl, but I first designed this quilted keyboard cover to keep soft fluffy cat fur out of our new computer. It turned out to be a fun gadget for organizing the office area. And I liked the reversible opportunity for decorating. I've made a few of these in chalkboard themed novelty fabric. They reverse to a Debbie Mumm fall fabric, as classrooms seems to decorate most for Fall. Couldn't resist adding a patch of vintage teacher illustration and poem from The Vintage Workshop.
What other themes would you like to see in a Quilted Keyboard Cover? Cats? Coffee? Would you like me to post a tutorial for making your own Quilted Keyboard Cover pattern? Please comment and let me know. Happy Quilting --Mom

Organize the New Year

How can I make it easier to celebrate the seasons? I want to hang my seasonal welcome signs the first minute a holiday approaches. No time for digging in the garage to find the right treasure to fit a new mood. Do you have this issue?

This is the inside of my hallway coat closet. It took nothing but push-pins to help hang my favorite holiday decorations for quick and super simple access. TA DA!

Do you have an organizational tip? It doesn't have to be a decorating idea. Anything that will help
keep the new year simple is worthwhile here. Please comment with your idea!
If you comment with a link to photo, I will re-post for you here on RHQ Blog.

Let's see how many organizing ideas we can collect this first week of 2011. Happy New Year! --Mom
