Grandma Mary's Bear

 

I made this bear for Grandma Mary. She is going on a trip to a family reunion. In another country. With travel on planes, trains, and even cruise ships. The trip may be hard for her because Grandma Mary has beginning stage Alzheimer's. We thought if she had a bear to travel with, it might be a little easier for her.  The bear could remind her where her seat is, which is her bed, and just be a friend as she is meeting all the new people she has known for a really long time. I hope so.

 

 

Grandma Mary's bear is purple and blue lilac flannel, extra soft! I didn't know that pink was her favorite, I only guessed what color Bear's ribbon should be.

Waiting for Santa Bear

Christmas is coming and Santa is almost on his way. How will you ever stand the wait? Fortunately, Mom has made a buddy to ease the impatient.

He's already for Santa with his night cap and quilt.

You can take off his accessories to wash or be stored easily. 

Mom has many more different color schemes. This is a classic, though.

How the Bear Travels

Remember that bear that tried to steal the food out of your picnic? Oh, wait, that's not the bear I was thinking of. It's the one that gets to travel to Russia! Yes, the bear that travels to Russia is the one I'm thinking of. If you don't remember, here is the story of how Mom made a bear.

 

Tracy is our friend from Community Choir. She is traveling to Kiev with her husband to pick up their new adopted kid. I bet children there will be so jealous of the bear their kid will get, and everyone will just want to hug that cute thing!

Mom likes making bears now. Here is a new blue bear she has made. This one too is waiting for just the right eye buttons to come along.

Teddy Bears with Friends

When a new member is being welcomed to a family, it is customary that gifts are presented. Our friend Tracy is adopting this summer, and she asked Mom to help create a teddy bear matching the baby blanket Tracy quilted.

This is before the finishing touches of felt!

 

That blue heart on the pad of the paw was done by yours truly!

 

The face looks cute doesn't it? But which eye is better? This one...

Mom also got a chance to use the stuffing skill she learned from Mhairi. Plus, Mom liked this bear pattern; Simplicity 5461. She said it was challenging, but not too hard. I bet anyone could make a bear like this.
